MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY

The Manufacturing Technology (MT-I) Laboratory provides students with the opportunity to study and practice manufacturing processes. This laboratory provides students with experiential learning of the nature and technique of manufacturing processes. Students can set up and operate machines and manufacture parts. Student learning from lab experiences is integrated with prior and subsequent learning of other engineering topics such as engineering materials and quality planning and control.

The MT-I Laboratory includes facilities to demonstrate and explore examples of casting, molding, machining and joining processes. The MT Laboratory is used on a scheduled basis for Manufacturing Technology-I and Engineering Practices Laboratory courses. The MT-I Laboratory also provides facilities for students to carry out process and product design projects in many courses. To date, the lab equipments have been used for studies in machining, injection molding and welding. The machine tools have also been used to fabricate pieces of equipment for experiments.

List of Major Experiments:

  1. Sand preparation and testing
  2. specimen preparation for testing permeability, clay content, grain fineness number, moisture content, green compression strength, green shear strength, splitting strength, hardness, etc.
  3. Experiments on clay content test
  4. Experiments on permeability test
  5. Experiments on grain fineness number
  6. Casting of metals after preparation of suitable moulds
  7. Experiments on properties of post casting, fettling, and cleaning, deburring, and polishing operations;
  8. Practicing smithy or forging of carbon steels and testing for its property changes;
  9. Laboratory experiments in Fabrication processes to observe effects of varying process parameters in GMAW and SMAW and
  10. Testing for Joint defects.
