Workshop Practice-II

In foundry, the students are guided in preparing the mould cavities using foundry sand. This section has the facilities to test the moulding sand properties like grain fineness test, moisture content test, mould hardness, core hardness test, etc. using well equipped instruments. This section is also has the facilities to making a typical product using sheet metal, basic forging processes like upsetting, drawing down and forge welding, practicing resistance spot welding, shielded metal arc welding and gas welding, machining of typical products involving lathe, milling/shaping operations and finishing process(es); machining of gears.

Objective:

In order to master the workshop tools and equipments student has to study about the different advance workshop practice tools and equipments. They can practically make various product using this different workshop practice tools and equipments which give them through knowledge about various operations of fitting, machining, pattern making, moulding, casting, welding etc. They can make typical product using sheet metal, basic forging processes like upsetting, drawing down, forge welding, practicing resistance spot welding, shielded metal arc welding MIG welding, TIG welding etc.

Major Experiments:

  1. Pattern Making; pattern material, pattern allowances and types of patterns.
  2. Mould making Practice: Uses of moulding tools: green sand moulding, gating system, risering system, core making.
  3. Making a typical product using sheet metal.
  4. Basic Forging processes like upsetting, drawing down and forge welding.
  5. Practicing Resistance Spot Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding and Gas Welding.
  6. Machining of typical products involving lathe, milling/shaping operations and finishing process (es); Machining of gears.
