BIOLOGY FOR ENGINEERS

Biological engineering includes knowledge from an applied science such as mass and heat transfer, kinetics, biocatalysts, biomechanics, bioinformatics, separation and purification processes, bioreactor design, surface science, polymer science, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. The objective of this course is to familiarize the students with numerical methods of solving the non- linear equations, interpolation. Also, to impart knowledge in basic concepts and few techniques in probability and statistics in relation to the engineering applications. The graduates can also pursue higher studies after completion of the B. Tech program. They can go for M. Tech in Biological Science & Bio-engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Agro-Technology, Environmental Science & Engineering, Computational Bioengineering, etc. It is very much important for engineering students to understand the basic principles of engineering and the introduction of biological concepts so that they can effectively interact to concern for providing solutions to the problems related to biosystems. Biology for Engineers lab includes:

  1. Determination of Stomatal Index
  2. Transpiration in plants
  3. Calculation of IVI
  4. Biostatistics
  5. Ecological Pyramids
  6. Calculation of Biological Diversity in a particular Area Etc.
